Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim will undertake a working visit to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) from 31 August to 3 September 2025, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit and the Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and World Anti-Fascist War.

Malaysia’s participation in these events reflects the country’s commitment to further deepening relations with China, while also signifying Malaysia’s solidarity and respect for the struggle and sacrifices of the Chinese people during the Second World War.

As Chair of ASEAN, Malaysia’s participation in the SCO Summit demonstrates its commitment to strengthening ASEAN–SCO relations and promoting its role as a bridge between ASEAN and SCO member states to explore potential cooperation across various sectors, including economy, trade, and other areas of mutual benefit. The Prime Minister will deliver remarks at the SCO Summit, underscoring Malaysia’s commitment to positioning both the country and ASEAN as a dynamic hub for trade and a preferred destination for quality investment.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on President Xi and will hold a bilateral meeting with Premier Li Qiang, to discuss bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. Premier Li will also host a dinner in honour of the Prime Minister and delegation.

At the sidelines of the SCO Summit, the Prime Minister will engage in discussions with business communities of China and Malaysia.

Malaysia and PRC established diplomatic relations on 31 May 1974. For sixteen years since 2009, PRC has remained Malaysia’s largest trading partner.
