WORKING VISIT OF THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER
AND MINISTER OF RURAL AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO THAILAND
10 – 12 DECEMBER 2025
YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development, will undertake a working visit to Bangkok, Thailand, from 10 to 12 December 2025. The Deputy Prime Minister will be accompanied by senior government officials from the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development.
As the Minister responsible for rural and regional development, the Deputy Prime Minister will lead the Malaysian delegation to attend the 14th ASEAN Ministers Meeting on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (AMRDPE) and Related Meetings. The Deputy Prime Minister will be delivering a Ministerial Statement highlighting Malaysia’s efforts in enhancing early childhood development and technical and vocational education and training (TVET), in order to equip rural youths with advanced technical skills relevant to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). A Joint Statement will be issued upon the conclusion of the Meeting.
As part of the visit, YAB Deputy Prime Minister is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on H.E. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Thailand.
The working visit is expected to further strengthen Malaysia–Thailand bilateral relations through the strengthening of existing cooperation, particularly in areas such as halal, rural development, and poverty eradication.
In 2024, Thailand was Malaysia’s seventh largest trading partner globally and the third largest among ASEAN Member States, with total trade amounting to RM114.56 billion (USD25.03 billion). From January to October 2025, bilateral trade between the two countries reached RM98.19 billion (USD22.79 billion), compared to RM95.52 billion (USD20.79 billion) during the corresponding period in 2024.
