UPDATE ON FLOODING IN HAT YAI AND SURROUNDING DISTRICTS, THAILAND

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla and the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok, continues to monitor the rapidly developing flood situation in Hat Yai and surrounding areas in southern Thailand.

The Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla and Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok have been working closely with Thai authorities and local partners to monitor the situation and provide assistance to Malaysians affected by the floods in Hat Yai and surrounding areas. Most of the affected Malaysians had been staying in multi-storey hotels and have been accounted for. As of 24 November 2025, based on figures provided by the Immigration Department of Malaysia, more than 6,300 Malaysians have crossed the border out of Thailand and safely arrived in Malaysia.

The Consulate General in Songkhla remains on full alert. Its operations team, activated on 22 November, is coordinating with Thai agencies and local volunteers to support Malaysians who may still be facing difficulties on the ground. Malaysians who have not yet registered or received assistance are strongly urged to contact the Consulate General or the Embassy without delay.

To ensure continued support and coordination, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has activated its Operations Room in Putrajaya effective today. Malaysians in the affected areas who are unable to reach Malaysian diplomatic missions in Thailand are advised to contact the Ministry directly.
