MALAYSIA AND BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei will undertake a State Visit to Malaysia from 25 to 28 August 2025 at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. The State Visit will be followed by the 26th Malaysia-Brunei Darussalam Annual Leaders’ Consultation (ALC).
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah will be accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen of Brunei, Cabinet ministers and senior government officials.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah will be accorded a State Welcoming Ceremony at Istana Negara on 26 August 2025, followed by an audience with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim. A State Banquet in honour of His Majesty and the Bruneian delegation will also be hosted by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim.
During the visit, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah is also scheduled to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in conjunction with the 26th ALC, on 27 August 2025. The ALC is the highest-level bilateral mechanism between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam. It allows both leaders to assess the progress of ongoing cooperation, address outstanding matters, and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The visit and annual meeting reflect the special and longstanding ties between the two nations, reaffirming collective efforts and steadfast commitment to advancing strategic collaboration for the prosperity and well-being of their peoples.
In 2024, Brunei Darussalam was Malaysia's 6th largest trading partner within ASEAN, with total trade amounting to RM7.53 billion (USD1.77 billion). From January to June 2025, total trade between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam stood at USD0.69 billion (RM3.02 billion), with exports valued at USD0.50 billion (RM2.18 billion) and imports at USD0.19 billion (RM0.84 billion).
