EARTHQUAKE IN GOVERNOR GENEROSO, DAVAO ORIENTAL, PHILIPPINES
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to confirm that an earthquake with 7.1 magnitude was reported in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental on 29 December 2018. So far, there has been no report of any Malaysian affected by the earthquake.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to advise Malaysians in the Philippines to be on alert for unusual wave and to stay away from the beach area, particularly near the shoreline of the following area:
- Compostela Valley;
- Davao Del Norte;
- Davao Del Sur;
- Davao Oriental;
- Davao City;
- Sarangani;
- South Cotabato;
- Agusan Del Norte;
- Agusan Del Sur;
- Surigao Del Norte; and
- Surigao Del Sur
Those who are visiting or living in the affected areas are advised to be cautious and always monitor local news and weather reports. They should follow instructions from local authorities. As the situation in the affected areas remain fragile, all Malaysians are therefore, advised to defer non-essential travel to the affected areas.
Malaysians requiring consular assistance are advised to contact either the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila or the Consulate General in Davao, Mindanao as per the details below:
