OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE PRIME MINISTER OF CAMBODIA

TO MALAYSIA

 

Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim will receive Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Manet, on an Official Visit to Malaysia on 27 February 2024. This marks the first visit of Prime Minister Hun Manet to Malaysia since his appointment as Cambodia’s Prime Minister in August 2023. Prime Minister Hun Manet will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sok Chenda Sophea, Cabinet Ministers and senior officials of the Government of Cambodia.

During the visit, Prime Minister Hun Manet will have an Audience with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia at Istana Negara.

Prime Minister Hun Manet will receive an Official Welcoming Ceremony at Perdana Putra Square, Perdana Putra Complex, Putrajaya. After the ceremony, the Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Hun Manet, during which the discussion will focus on the progress of ongoing bilateral relations, particularly cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture and commodities, the halal industry, energy, security, information and communication, as well as Malaysia’s role in the socio-economic development of the Muslim community in Cambodia.

Both leaders will also witness the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Financial Innovation and Payment Systems between the Central Bank of Malaysia and the National Bank of Cambodia.

Prime Minister Hun Manet is also scheduled to meet Yang di-Pertua Dewan Negara Senator Datuk Mutang Tagal and Yang di-Pertua Dewan Rakyat Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Johari bin Abdul.

This Official Visit will further add value to closer relations between Malaysia and Cambodia, bilaterally and within the framework of ASEAN. Cambodia was one of the earliest nations to establish diplomatic relations with Malaysia in 1957. In 2023, Cambodia ranked as Malaysia's 9th largest trading partner in the ASEAN region. The value of bilateral trade between Malaysia and Cambodia stood at RM3.02 billion, with exports from Malaysia to Cambodia valued at RM2.35 billion, representing a 1.6% increase from the previous year. Malaysian companies have implemented 162 projects in Cambodia, with investments totalling RM14.4 billion.
