HASAN TO THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA
23 – 25 APRIL 2024
Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan has undertaken an Official Visit to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) from 23 to 25 April 2024. This visit marks his first official visit to China since assuming office in December 2023.
During the visit, the Foreign Minister met with his counterpart, Minister Wang Yi, to discuss bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest. The discussions focused on strengthening the long-standing diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, particularly in the context of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and 11 years since the elevation of relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) in 2013.
Apart from the bilateral meeting, the Foreign Minister also met with Minister Liu Jianchao of the International Department of the Central Committee and senior officials of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). These interactions aimed to deepen political dialogue and explore avenues for enhanced cooperation between Malaysia and China.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the Foreign Minister to engage with the Malaysian diaspora in China, underscoring the importance of people-to-people ties in bilateral relations.
The Foreign Minister’s visit to China has further strengthened the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Malaysia and China, setting a positive trajectory for future collaborations across various sectors.
China remains Malaysia’s largest trading partner, with total trade reaching RM450.84 billion (USD98.80 billion) in 2023. This robust economic relationship continues to drive growth and prosperity for both nations.
