OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE CHIEF ADVISOR OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE

PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF BANGLADESH TO MALAYSIA

11 – 13 AUGUST 2025

Chief Advisor of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Dr. Muhammad Yunus will undertake an official visit to Malaysia from 11 to 13 August 2025 at the invitation of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The visit is to reciprocate the official visit by the Prime Minister to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in October 2024. The Chief Advisor will be accompanied by several Advisors and senior government officials.

The Chief Advisor will be accorded an official welcoming ceremony at the Perdana Putra Complex, Putrajaya, on 12 August 2025, followed by a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister. Both Leaders are expected to review the progress of Malaysia–Bangladesh relations, particularly in the areas of trade and investment, labour, education, tourism, and defence. The discussions will also include regional and international developments of mutual interest.

Both Leaders will also witness the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in the fields of defence, energy, strategic and international studies, capacity building in semiconductors, and trade promotion, as well as the Exchange of Notes in the areas of diplomatic training and higher education. In honour of the Chief Advisor and his delegation, the Prime Minister will host an official luncheon at the Seri Perdana Complex.

On 13 August 2025, the Chief Advisor is scheduled to deliver a public lecture and be conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Social Business by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He will also have a session with members of the Yunus Social Business Centre community and the university network, in a programme jointly organised by UKM.

In 2024, total trade between Malaysia and Bangladesh reached RM13.35 billion (USD2.92 billion), an increase of 5.1 per cent compared with 2023. Bangladesh is Malaysia’s second-largest trading partner and export destination in South Asia, and major exports include petroleum products, palm oil, and chemicals, while imports from Bangladesh comprise textiles, footwear, petroleum products, and manufactures.

The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations and foster stronger cooperation in areas of mutual benefit, building upon the strong foundation established since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972.
