LATEST DEVELOPMENTS FOLLOWING TYPHOON DANIEL IN LIBYA
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia is closely monitoring the post-Typhoon Daniel developments that struck the Eastern region of Libya last Sunday. This incident has led to the rupture of two (2) dams in the city of Derna, resulting in a significant flood that has tragically claimed the lives of over 8,000 individuals, with an additional 10,000 still reported as missing. The flood casualties are expected to continue rising as search and rescue operations persist.
Malaysia extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to all the victims and their families affected by Typhoon Daniel. As of 14th September 2023, there have been no reports of Malaysian citizens affected by the floods in the eastern region of Libya. The two (2) Malaysians residing in Marsa El Brega have been successfully contacted and confirmed to be safe.
