ALL MALAYSIANS AFFECTED BY FLOODS IN HAT YAI SUCCESSFULLY EVACUATED
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla, confirms that evacuation operations for Malaysians affected by the floods in Hat Yai and surrounding districts have successfully been completed.
A total of 6,222 Malaysians who were stranded following severe flooding have been safely rescued and evacuated through coordinated efforts involving the Embassy, the Consulate General, and more than 15 Malaysian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and volunteer groups. On the final day of operations, the remaining 12 Malaysians were successfully transported to Malaysia via the Bukit Kayu Hitam border crossing.
Evacuation operations, which began on 22 November 2025, were conducted under extremely challenging conditions, including dangerously strong currents, high water levels, and intermittent communication blackouts. Despite these obstacles, all stranded Malaysians, including those trapped in more than 150 hotels and smaller establishments, were successfully reached and brought to safety.
The Ministry expresses its deep appreciation to the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand for its invaluable assistance, coordination, and solidarity throughout the rescue efforts. Malaysia also extends heartfelt gratitude to the participating NGOs and volunteer teams whose tireless service and dedication exemplify the spirit of compassion and cooperation under the Malaysia MADANI framework.
The Ministry acknowledges the extraordinary contributions of the following teams, whose efforts were crucial to the successful completion of the evacuation: Tim Truck Towing Perlis; Tim Bas FTC Insurance – C3; Tim Persatuan Sikhs Malaysia; Tim TravelThai. My; Tim Jetski; and the Pasukan Bomba Sukarela (PBS) teams from Sg Petani, Sukun Bukit Mertajam, Padang Sera, Bukit Bendera, Alex Team, Kepong Selangor, Kepala Batas, Menglembu, Kahang Johor, Teluk Intan, Pekan Ipoh, Sri Serdang, and Bangi.
Their commitment to humanitarian service will not go unnoticed, and their contributions stand as a reflection of Malaysia’s enduring values of unity and empathy.
The Ministry continues to advise Malaysians travelling to regions prone to seasonal flooding to register their presence with the nearest Malaysian diplomatic mission. This enables timely communication and assistance in the event of emergencies, particularly during this period of inclement weather across the region.
The Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla will continue to monitor the situation and extend assistance to any Malaysians requiring support.
