THE WORKING VISIT OF THE MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF AUSTRALIA

Foreign Minister, YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir will host a working visit by his Australian counterpart, Senator the Hon. Penny Wong on 27 and 28 February 2023. Both Ministers are expected to exchange views on various issues of mutual concern, including ASEAN, Myanmar and AUKUS. Senator Wong is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim.
Senator Wong’s other activities include meeting with the Minister of Economy, YB Rafizi bin Ramli on 28 February 2023, as well as, attending private programmes arranged by the Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.
Australia remains a close friend and important partner of Malaysia. The visit signifies a firm commitment by both countries to further strengthen ties and would further augment existing collaborations under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP). Both sides have deep cooperation in various sectors, including defence, science and technology, education, counter-terrorism, trade and investments, among others. In 2023, Australia is scheduled to host the second Annual Leaders’ Meeting (ALM) and the 5th Annual Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AFMM) under the ambit of CSP.
In 2022, the total trade between the two countries increased significantly by 55.4% to RM88.65 billion (USD20.05 billion), making Australia the 10th largest trading partner globally, for Malaysia.
