The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Plantation and Commodities, The Honourable Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof will host a Working Visit by the Vice Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, His Excellency Francisco Kalbuadi Lay from 3 to 6 December 2023. Both leaders will meet on 4 December 2023 to take stock of the state of bilateral relations between Malaysia and Timor-Leste, and discuss international issues of mutual concern.
His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Mustaín Billah has consented to an audience by His Excellency Kalbuadi Lay at Istana Negara on 5 December 2023.
His Excellency Kabualdi Lay, who is also holding the portfolio of Minister of Tourism and Environment, will meet the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, The Honourable Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing to discuss potential collaboration in the tourism sector between the two countries.
Other programs line up for His Excellency Kalbuadi Lay include attending the reception of the 48th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence Day of Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste which will be organised by the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Kuala Lumpur and participating in a business networking with the Malaysian business community and Chambers of Commerce.
The visit is expected to further strengthen and enhance the bilateral relationship between the two countries, and demonstrate Malaysia’s support for the full membership of Timor- Leste into ASEAN. In 2022, the total bilateral trade between Malaysia and Timor-Leste was RM384.48 million (USD90.2 million), an increase of 93.3 percent compared to 2021, valued at RM194.09 million (USD46.6 million).
