TO THE HONG KONG SPECIAL ADMINISTRATIVE REGION

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, YB Datuk Mohamad Alamin will undertake a Working Visit to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) from 12 to 14 September 2023. This will mark his first visit to the HKSAR since assuming office in December 2022.
At the invitation of the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, His Excellency John Lee Ka-Chiu, YB Deputy Foreign Minister will participate in the 8th Belt and Road Summit, themed “Prospering on a Decade of Collaboration”, which gathers regional leaders and senior government officials as well as influential business leaders to promote business collaboration along the Belt and Road Initiative. YB Deputy Foreign Minister will be one of the panelists in the Policy Dialogue II session titled “Belt and Road Initiative as a Catalyst for Regional Cooperation and Development.”
Apart from the Summit, YB Deputy Foreign Minister will be meeting Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po. Both sides will exchange views on the current state of bilateral cooperation and follow up on the implementation of several agreements reached between the leaders during the recent visit by Chief Executive John Lee to Malaysia in July 2023.
During the visit, YB Deputy Foreign Minister will also take the opportunity to engage with the Malaysian diaspora residing in the HKSAR in the spirit of Malaysia MADANI.
The HKSAR has always been one of Malaysia’s top trading partners. In 2022, the HKSAR was Malaysia’s 9th largest trading partner with total trade valued at RM113.20 billion (USD25.69 billion), an increase of 20 percent from 2021.
