Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, will host Minister of Foreign Affairs II of Brunei Darussalam, Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, during his working visit to Malaysia.
The visit is held in conjunction with the 26th Meeting on the Implementation of the Exchange of Letters (EOL) which both Foreign Ministers will co-chair on 23 July 2025. The annual EOL Meeting is a key bilateral mechanism for resolving issues and exploring new areas of cooperation between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam. Both Ministers are expected to take stock of progress on bilateral issues, including land and maritime boundaries, and discuss efforts to enhance economic cooperation.
The EOL Meeting serves as a platform to prepare for the upcoming 26th Annual Leaders’ Consultation which will be hosted by Malaysia in August 2025.
In 2024, Brunei Darussalam was Malaysia's 6th largest trading partner within ASEAN with total trade amounting to RM7.53 billion (USD1.77 billion). From January to May 2025, total trade between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam stood at USD0.58 billion (RM2.56 billion), reflecting the continued strength of bilateral economic ties.
