The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, YB Dato' Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir will host his counterpart from the Republic of Korea, His Excellency Park Jin in conjunction with the latter’s working visit to Malaysia from 1 to 2 May 2023. This will be His Excellency Park Jin’s inaugural visit to Malaysia since being appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea in May 2022.
During the visit, YB Dato' Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir will have a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Park Jin. The meeting will provide an opportunity for both Foreign Ministers to discuss the way forward in strengthening Malaysia-Republic of Korea long-standing relations and multifaceted cooperation. High on the agenda include cooperation in trade and investment, digital economy, green energy, culture, defence and education. Additionally, both sides will exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. His Excellency Park Jin is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The visit by His Excellency Park Jin to Malaysia is timely as it coincides with the commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the Look East Policy (LEP) between Malaysia and the Republic of Korea. This visit will be an avenue for both sides to advance the partnership to greater heights, guided by shared interest, mutual trust, and people-to-people exchanges.
In 2022, the Republic of Korea was Malaysia’s 8th largest trading partner with total trade amounting to RM114.21 billion (USD25.94 billion), an increase of 29.3 percent from the recorded value in 2021. The Republic of Korea is also Malaysia’s 7th largest foreign investor in the manufacturing sector for implemented projects valued at RM33.0 billion (USD9.25 billion).
