RECENT DEVELOPMENT IN YEMEN
Malaysia continues to closely follow the developments in Yemen and joins the international community in expressing concerns over the missed opportunity to renew the UN-brokered ceasefire in Yemen following its expiry on 2 October 2022.
Malaysia strongly believes the immediate resumption of negotiation between the concerned parties is crucial towards reaching an inclusive and negotiated political settlement in Yemen. The strong political will by leaders of all parties will lead to an amicable solution to the Yemen conflict and pave the way for normalcy in the country.
Malaysia is pleased to note that the UN-brokered ceasefire deal since 2 April 2022 has resulted in improved humanitarian conditions and reducing civilian casualties in the country. In this regard, Malaysia urges all parties to continue giving importance to resolving the conflict amicably through dialogue, without any precondition and in good faith, for the well-being and benefit of the Yemeni people.
Malaysia further calls upon the concerned parties to exercise restraint, take measurable steps to halt any armed actions and unduly provocations as well as abide by relevant UNSC resolutions, including extending the ceasefire deal to a longer period.
Malaysia expresses its full support to the efforts by the UN and other like-minded countries in finding a long-lasting solution to end the conflict in Yemen.
