PUBLIC DIPLOMACY PROGRAM - WISMA PUTRA DAY 2023: AN EFFORT TO PROMOTE PUBLIC DIPLOMACY
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, fondly known as Wisma Putra, will open its doors to the public for the first time on 4 November 2023, from 8.30am to 4.30pm on the occasion of "Wisma Putra Day 2023," aimed at promoting cultural diplomacy and bringing the heart of Malaysia's foreign affairs closer to its citizens and the international community.
Wisma Putra plays an integral role in shaping Malaysia's image and reputation on the global stage. It is the hub where international relations are nurtured, and where diplomatic ties are forged. "Wisma Putra Day 2023" will serve as a unique opportunity for all Malaysians and foreigners to better understand the pivotal role and functions of the Ministry and its related agencies.
The event promises an exciting lineup of activities and programmes, offering insights into the world of diplomacy, while also celebrating Malaysia's rich culture and heritage.
Highlights of the day include:
Promotion of ‘Malaysian Breakfast Culture’: Taste the flavors of the country’s iconic breakfast: nasi lemak, roti canai and teh tarik that has been nominated under the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage since March 2023.
Cultural and Arts Performances: Immerse yourself in the cultural diversity of Malaysia through captivating performances that will showcase the nation's multicultural heritage.
Film and Animation Screenings: Explore the world of Malaysian cinema with screenings of renowned films and animations that have contributed to the nation's creative identity.
Traditional Games and Sport Diplomacy: Participate in Malaysian traditional games and activities, offering a glimpse into the pastimes that have been cherished by generations. There will also be a meet-and-great session with Malaysian sports legends.
Exhibitions: Discover the history and achievements of Wisma Putra and its diplomatic missions and celebrate Malaysia's efforts in international diplomacy. There will be also exhibitions by collaborators such as National Department for Culture and Arts and Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, as well as diplomatic missions in Malaysia.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato' Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, will officiate the event as well as the Wisma Putra Volunteerism Programme, an initiative by the Ministry to encourage youths to contribute to the community and to inspire them to become future diplomats. YB Minister of Foreign Affairs will also officiate “Modul Bahasa Melayu Untuk Penutur Asing (Peringkat Asas)” and “Modul Kursus Bahasa Melayu untuk Kanak-kanak”, modules developed by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka as a guidance for locally recruited staffs and children of the home-based staffs at Malaysian diplomatic missions abroad in learning the Malaysian national language, Bahasa Melayu.
