OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE PRIME MINISTER TO THE REPUBLIC OF FRANCE
3-4 JULY 2025
At the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim will undertake an official visit to the Republic of France on 3 and 4 July 2025. This will mark the Prime Minister’s inaugural visit to France in his current capacity.
The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan; Minister of Transport Loke Siew Fook; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Haji Mohamad bin Sabu; Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Utama Tengku Zafrul bin Tengku Abdul Aziz; and Minister of Defence Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin.
On 4 July 2025, the Prime Minister will be accorded an Official Welcoming Ceremony at Hôtel des Invalides. Both the Prime Minister and President Macron are also scheduled to hold a tête-à-tête, followed by a delegation meeting at the Élysée Palace. Discussions will cover the overall state of Malaysia-France relations, with particular emphasis on enhancing cooperation in trade and investment, defence, education, tourism and people-to-people ties. Both leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, including ASEAN-France Development Partnership, ASEAN-EU Dialogue Relations, and the situation in the Middle East.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will also participate in a Roundtable meeting with leading French captains of industry to promote trade and investment opportunities in Malaysia. He is also scheduled to deliver a public lecture at Sorbonne University, meet the Rector of the Grand Mosque of Paris and engage with members of the Malaysian diaspora residing in France.
France is one of Malaysia’s top five trading partners within the European Union and a key source of foreign direct investment in high-technology and strategic sectors. In 2024, total trade between Malaysia and France amounted to RM15.95 billion (USD3.63 billion). From January to May 2025, trade was recorded at RM6.26 billion (USD1.49 billion).
After France, the Prime Minister will undertake a working visit to Brazil to participate in the BRICS Leaders Summit from 5 to 7 July 2025.
