The Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim will undertake an Official Visit to the Republic of Singapore on 30 January 2023, at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, His Excellency Lee Hsien Loong. This will be YAB Prime Minister’s maiden visit to Singapore after being sworn in as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia.
YAB Prime Minister will be accompanied by YABhg. Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Dr. Wan Ismail. The delegation will comprise the Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, the Minister of Transport, YB Tuan Anthony Loke Siew Fook, the Minister of International Trade and Industry, YB Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, the Minister of Communications and Digital, YB Tuan Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil, and officials from the relevant Ministries and Agencies.
The Premier of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Zohari bin Tun Abang Haji Openg and the Chief Minister of Johor, YAB Datuk Onn Hafiz bin Ghazi will also be part of the official delegation.
During the visit, YAB Prime Minister will be meeting Singaporean leaders, including President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Additionally, the two Prime Ministers will witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to Promote Cooperation on Data, Cybersecurity and the Digital Economy and two (2) Frameworks on Cooperation in Digital Economy; and Green Economy. YAB Prime Minister will also hold an engagement with the Malaysian diaspora in Singapore.
The visit reflects the importance of the Malaysia-Singapore ties as close neighbours and partners in ASEAN. It will provide a golden opportunity for leaders from both sides to discuss ways to elevate this relationship, reflecting the breadth and depth of shared interest, longstanding people-to-people links, and strong economic relations. Both sides will also be exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
In 2022, Singapore was Malaysia's 2nd largest trading partner and the largest among ASEAN countries, with total trade amounting to RM367.53 billion (USD83.53 billion), an increase of 29.4 percent, compared to the recorded value in 2021.
