OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA YAB DATO’ SERI ANWAR IBRAHIM TO THE KINGDOM OF CAMBODIA 27 MARCH 2023
The Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim will undertake his maiden official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia on 27 March 2023 at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Cambodia His Excellency Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.
YAB Prime Minister will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir; Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department(Religious Affairs), YB Senator Dato' Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Na'im Haji Mokhtar; Minister of Human Resources, YB V. Sivakumar; as well as senior government officials.
During the course of the visit, YAB Prime Minister is scheduled to have a royal audience with the King of Cambodia, His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni. YABPrime Minister will also have a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Hun Sen. Both Leaders will deliberate on the expansion of bilateral cooperation to further consolidate the Malaysia-Cambodia long-standing ties. As part of the official programme, YAB Prime Minister will meet with the President of the Senate and the President of the National Assembly of Cambodia.
A special Iftar hosted by His Excellency Hun Sen with Muslim scholars and communities has been organised in honour of YAB Prime Minister. During the Iftar, YAB Prime Minister is expected to hand-over a contribution of Al-Quran translated into Khmer and English languages to the Muslim communities in Cambodia.
The official visit by YAB Prime Minister reflects the warm and friendly relations between Malaysia and Cambodia, bilaterally and within the framework of ASEAN.The visit will afford Malaysia and Cambodia the opportunity to explore joint initiatives in new emerging areas that will contribute to sustainable economic recovery in both countries.
In 2022, Cambodia was Malaysia’s 58th largest trading partner globally and the 8th largest in ASEAN. Total bilateral trade between Malaysia and Cambodia wasrecorded at USD 683.6 million in 2022, an increase of 20.8% in comparison to the total trade in 2021 of USD 566.1 million.
