YB DATO’ SERI DIRAJA DR. ZAMBRY ABD KADIR TO THE REPUBLIC OF IRAQ

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, will undertake an Official Visit to the Republic of Iraq from 23 – 25 August 2023 at the invitation of his counterpart, the Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations Affairs and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, His Excellency Dr. Fuad Hussein. This will be YB Foreign Minister’s maiden visit to the Republic of Iraq after taking office on 2 December 2022. YB Foreign Minister will be accompanied by senior government officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and business delegations.
During the visit, YB Foreign Minister is expected to pay a courtesy call on the Iraqi leaders. He is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, His Excellency Dr. Fuad Hussein to follow up on the discussion held on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on 5 July 2023. The meeting will provide an excellent opportunity for Malaysia to further strengthen its long-standing bilateral relations with the Republic of Iraq as well as to explore new areas of cooperation of mutual interest. YB Foreign Minister will also take the opportunity to hold an engagement session with the Iraqi business community to explore the economic potential between the two countries.
The Republic of Iraq remains Malaysia’s 6th largest trading partner and the 7th largest source of imports among the West Asian countries. The total trade in 2022 was valued at RM4.68 billion (USD1.07 billion), an increase of 24.3% compared to RM3.76 billion (USD0.91 billion) in 2021.
