The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir will undertake an Official Visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 19 to 23 February 2023. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be the first West Asia country visited by YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry since assuming office as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia on 2 December 2022. It reflects the special and long-standing relationship with the Kingdom, as well as the commitment of the Malaysian Government under the leadership of YAB Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim towards the Malaysia - Kingdom of Saudi Arabia bilateral relations. YB Foreign Minister will be accompanied by senior government officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the visit.
YB Foreign Minister is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan to continue the discussion on expanding the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, including the formation of Saudi-Malaysian Coordinating Council (SMCC), as well as to explore new areas of cooperation.
YB Foreign Minister will meet the Minister of Investment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Khalid A. Al-Falih to explore new economic potentials between the two countries.
YB Foreign Minister will also be meeting the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), His Excellency Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi in Riyadh for discussion on the ASEAN-GCC Summit, which is scheduled to be held this year.
YB Foreign Minister is also scheduled to have separate meetings with the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), His Excellency Ambassador Hissein Brahim Taha in Jeddah and the Secretary General of the Muslim World League, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa in Riyadh.
During the visit, YB Foreign Minister will hold engagement sessions with the business communities in Riyadh and Jeddah, which will serve as platforms for Malaysian businessmen to explore strategic cooperation in business and investment, particularly in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia remains Malaysia’s largest trading partner and the largest source of imports among the West Asian countries. The total trade in 2022 was valued at RM45.52 billion (USD10.26 billion), an increase of 159.2 percent, compared to RM17.56 billion (USD 4.23 billion) in 2021.
