SAUDI ARABIA AND PARTICIPATION IN THE ASEAN-GULF COOPERATION
COUNCIL (GCC) SUMMIT IN RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA

The Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim will lead the Malaysian delegation to the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit which is scheduled on 20 October 2023 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. YAB Prime Minister will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, as well as senior government officials.
The inaugural ASEAN-GCC Summit stands as a milestone event, marking a pivotal step in deepening and strengthening ties between ASEAN Member States and the GCC. This Summit offers a strategic platform for dialogue, allowing leaders to explore avenues of political, economic, and socio-cultural cooperation, while addressing regional and international issues of mutual interest.
As country coordinator for ASEAN-GCC relation, the participation of YAB Prime Minister in the ASEAN-GCC Summit will emphasize Malaysia's steadfast commitment to ASEAN at the highest level. This holds particular significance as Malaysia, being one of the five founding countries of ASEAN, has been a responsible and proactive member since the establishment of ASEAN in 1967.
Following the Summit and at the invitation of the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, YAB Prime Minister will undertake an Official Visit to the Kingdom.
High on the agenda is to continue the ongoing discussion to elevate bilateral relations between Malaysia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, enhancing economic cooperation, collaboration in energy transition, as well as identify new areas of cooperation. The visit will also provide an opportunity for leaders of the two countries to exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
