MEETING OF THE
NON-ALIGNED MOVEMENT (NAM) MINISTERIAL COMMITTEE ON PALESTINE
BAKU, AZERBAIJAN
5 JULY 2023
YB Foreign Minister delivered Malaysia’s national statement at the Meeting of the Non- Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Committee on Palestine in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 5 July 2023.
The meeting was chaired by Azerbaijan and attended by 15 NAM Member States, which are members of the NAM Ministerial Committee on Palestine.
Among key points made by YB Foreign Minister in Malaysia’s national statement were as follows:
- Expressed concern over the worsening situation in Palestine, including the increasing loss of life among innocent civilians, including women and children, as well as the destruction of buildings and infrastructures;
- Condemned the increase in illegal settlements in Palestine and the Israeli regime’s blatant disregard of international law, including international humanitarian and human rights law;
- Expressed regret at the recent incident in Jenin involving the killing of innocent Palestinian civilians by the Israeli regime;
- Criticised the double standards of Western countries which frequently condemn parties in other conflicts while shielding the Israeli regime from accountability for its atrocities against Palestinians; and
- Urged NAM Member States to remain united in upholding NAM’s principled position on Palestine, and in speaking out against the brutality and apartheid policies of the Israeli regime.
Malaysia maintains the same principle which recognize the rights of Palestine and its people to have their own independent and sovereign country just like any other independent country in the world.
