MALAYSIAN APPOINTED TO THE ORGANISATION FOR THE PROHIBITION OF CHEMICAL
WEAPONS’ SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY BOARD
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of Malaysian Dr. Raja Subramaniam as an Expert to the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
Dr. Raja Subramaniam has over 23 years of specialised expertise in chemical weapons-related matters. He holds a Doctorate in Chemical Weapons Analysis from the National Swedish Chemical, Biological, Radioactive and Nuclear (CBRN) Defence Research Institute. He is currently serving a second term as the Undersecretary of the Malaysian National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC), which operates under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The SAB comprises 25 independent experts from OPCW Member States, serving in their personal capacity, providing specialised advice to the OPCW Director-General, which is based in The Hague, on scientific and technological developments relevant to the implementation of the United Nations Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). The SAB meets once a year, or as and when required by the Director-General.
Dr. Raja will commence his term as Expert to the SAB from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2027. He is among seven Experts from the Asian region in the SAB.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its appreciation to the Director-General of the OPCW and the international community for their confidence in Malaysia’s commitment to global efforts in eliminating chemical weapons.
