MALAYSIA CONDEMNS THE ISRAELI ILLEGAL SETTLEMENT
IN THE OCCUPIED PALESTINIAN TERRITORY
Malaysia unreservedly condemns and rejects the recent decision by the Israeli regime to legalize nine (9) outposts and Israeli illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory of the West Bank. Such decisions and the existence of illegal settlements as well as their expansion clearly violate international law and humanitarian law, including the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War and many United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, in particular Resolution 2334 (2016).
The UNSC has the primary responsibility for ensuring respect for and adherence to its resolutions. The West Bank, including East Jerusalem is an internationally recognized Palestinian territory. The expansion of Israeli illegal settlements means more and more Palestinian lands being confiscated illegally. Legalizing those settlements is a clear attempt to make the Israeli occupation permanent. The international community must never allow this, and the UNSC must demand the Israeli regime to rescind its decision and dismantle its illegal settlements activities.
Malaysia stands by our unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause and their struggle against the continued Israeli illegal occupation, its systematic oppression and apartheid policy in the Palestinian territory. The Palestinians have the absolute right to self- determination with the sovereign and independent State of Palestine, based on the pre- 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
