The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of Malaysia in Beirut, Lebanon and the Honorary Consul of Malaysia in Syria, is closely monitoring the situation following a 4.8 magnitude earthquake that struck near Hama, Syria, at 11:56 PM local time on Monday, 12 August 2024. The tremor affected Syria and Lebanon and was felt as far as Jordan and Türkiye.
As of the latest report, no Malaysians are reported to have been affected by the earthquake. The Embassy of Malaysia in Beirut and Honorary Consul of Malaysia in Syria are actively working with local authorities to gather information and assess the situation.
Malaysians in the affected areas are advised to stay vigilant and adhere to announcements by local authorities.
