EARTHQUAKE IN MARRAKECH, MOROCCO
Malaysia extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the victims and families affected by the earthquake, as well as to the Government and the people of the Kingdom of Morocco.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, through the Embassy of Malaysia in Rabat, Morocco, is monitoring closely developments in the aftermath of the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Marrakech, Morocco on 8 September 2023. It was reported that more than 1,000 people died and 1,000 others injured. The death toll is expected to rise as more victims are believed to be trapped under the rubble.
On 9 September 2023, no Malaysians were reportedly affected by the earthquake. Malaysians in Morocco are advised to remain vigilant and to follow the latest updates and advice issued by the local authorities.
