DEPUTY MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS TO LEAD MALAYSIAN DELEGATION TO 1 st MALAYSIA AND UNITED ARAB EMIRATES JOINT COMMITTEE FOR COOPERATION 4 JUNE 2024
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Datuk Mohamad bin Haji Alamin will lead the Malaysian delegation to the inaugural meeting of the Malaysia and United Arab Emirates (UAE) Joint Committee for Cooperation (JCC) in Abu Dhabi on 4 June 2024. The convening of the JCC is in line with the elevation of Malaysia-UAE ties to the level of Strategic Partnership since September 2022.
The 1 st Malaysia-UAE JCC Meeting will be co-chaired by the UAE’s Minister of State, Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the scope and details of the 16 areas of strategic cooperation between both countries. These areas of cooperation include, among others, defence, banking and finance, health, renewable energy, education, the halal industry and science and technology.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Their discussion will centre on Malaysia-UAE bilateral relations and regional and international affairs, particularly the situation in the Middle East and in Palestine.
The UAE is Malaysia’s second-largest trading partner, second-largest export destination, and second-largest import source from the West Asian region. In 2023, Malaysia's total trade with the UAE increased by 5.4% to RM39.63 billion (USD8.67 billion) from RM37.60 billion (USD8.53 billion) the previous year.
