ASEAN-EU COMMEMORATIVE SUMMIT 14 DECEMBER 2022, BRUSSELS, BELGIUM
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Senator Dato' Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, in his capacity as the Special Envoy to the Prime Minister, will lead the Malaysian delegation to the ASEAN-European Union (EU) Commemorative Summit on 14 December 2022 in Brussels, Belgium. He will be accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The inaugural Commemorative Summit involves Leaders of ASEAN and the EU Member States. The Summit is expected to discuss the way forward for ASEAN-EU dialogue relations as well as political-security, economic and socio-cultural cooperation, climate change, food security and sustainable development.
Prior to the Commemorative Summit, YB Foreign Minister will participate in the C-Suite Luncheon organised by the EU-ASEAN Business Council on 13 December 2022 for an engagement with the European business leaders. He will be accompanied by the Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), YB Liew Chin Tong and senior officials of MITI.
On the sidelines of the Commemorative Summit, Malaysia and the EU are expected to sign the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement Framework. The agreement aims to enhance cooperation in various fields including political relations, trade and investment, energy, transportation, agriculture, finance and maritime.
YB Foreign Minister is also scheduled to hold meetings with his counterparts from ASEAN and the EU to exchange views on various bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest.
Malaysia’s participation at the ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit reflects Malaysia’s commitment to strengthen dialog relations between ASEAN and EU. It is also an opportunity for Malaysia to share its views on issues of strategic importance. YB Foreign Minister will be hosting dinner for Malaysians in Belgium.
