ADOPTION OF UN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL RESOLUTION ENTITLED
“PROMOTING HUMAN RIGHTS AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
THROUGH TRANSPARENT, ACCOUNTABLE AND EFFICIENT PUBLIC SERVICES DELIVERY”
The Geneva based United Nations Human Rights Council adopted a resolution entitled “Promoting Human Rights and Sustainable Development Goals through Transparent, Accountable and Efficient Public Services Delivery” on 3 April 2023.
The resolution was sponsored by Malaysia together with other members of the core group namely, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Thailand, Türkiye, Kenya and Ecuador at the 52nd Session of the Council.
The resolution encourages States to promote, instil and integrate human rights principles in the public service. It calls for voluntary exchange of information and best practices particularly in the digitalisation of public service. The resolution also encourages capacity- building and training in areas of human rights, gender equality, the rule of law and good governance.
The resolution attests to Malaysia’s efforts to advance human rights and the SDGs, in line with the ‘Malaysia Madani’ espoused by YAB Prime Minister. The resolution augurs well with the core values of Madani in strengthening public service delivery through transparency, accountability and integrity.
The resolution demonstrates the determination of the members of the core group to contribute to the Human Rights Council’s mandate towards the advancement of global human rights agenda.
